About A girl
Quality of filming- relates to the quality of life the grainy quality adds to the cinematography and aesthetics.
Connect
No dialogue. The cinematography and mise-en-scene and non diegetic/ diegetic music conveys the emotions the audience are intended to see.
Curfew
Topic of the film and use of camera shots and editing. Girl dancing in the dancing in the bowling alley not being reality.
Night Fishing
Use of handheld camera- use of the phone. Adds to the verisimilitude
Swimmer
Audio at the beginning sounds like its from an old film/radio. Black and white scenes. Tracking shots and close ups.
Elephant
Hand held camera and no fancy editing
Elephant
Hand held camera and no fancy editing
- At first if the filming doesn't quite work out I will change to script. I will make a storyboard alongside filming to help myself visualise what it is I'm capturing. If I have to create a script it'll be more descriptive than dialogue has a main influence for my film is Connect. My aim is create the emotions the audience is meant to experience through the use of cinematography, mise-en-scene, sound and editing. The filming will take place in various locations in Hinckley. The film will follow the narrative of one character.
Original idea:
A girl suffering from mental illness, film follows her struggles with coping. Tries to end her life multiple times but each time is interrupted. At the end she leaves and dances with the reaper. The dancing scene is dreamlike and elegant. The scene has the non dietetic music played out loud over the scene. When the dance scene finishes the girl drops to the floor and the scene cuts to black. Film influences in this idea: Curfew & Connect. No dialogue is necessarily used (diegetitcally) Audio from other forms of media (like in Swimmer)
DO SOME TEST FILMING FIRST TO SEE IF IDEA CORRESPONDS
Most short films I have studied has a narrative twist at the end which is developed throughout the plot which implies that these type of short films rely on active spectatorship . The Meaning behind my film that mental illness can happen to the best of us and to anyone and doesn't decide on the the quality of life. The aim is to display this topic in a way that doesn't seem insensitive but in a way to get people to understand who it effects people and always keep checking the well-being of those around them if they aren't acting normal. Like Curfew the topic is dark and hard hitting but it depicts an issue which is an issue in today's society, especially with young people.
